CANOE THE NATURAL WAY Traditional birch wood canoes were developed by the First Nations and were used extensively during the fur trade. Birch Bark Canoe The Great Lakes and rivers required lightweight boats that could easily transfer people, furs, and other goods to and from trading posts. The boats were made by stretching birch bark over a frame of wooden ribs and then sealed with hot resin to make the exterior of the boat waterproof. Many canoes during the fur trade could fit 12 men and cargo while still manoeuvering easily down a river. Though becoming more recreational than tactical vessels, the canoe's contributions to the economy of Canada are beyond measure. Visit the West Parry Sound District Museum on Tower Hill to view this authentic birch bark canoe. The Museum is open after Labour Day from 9am-5pm Tuesday through Friday and 10am-2pm on Saturday. See you there!

ZEUTER BIG ON DSL! Local ISP Zeuter Development Corporation has dropped Cable Internet in favour of DSL in the local Parry Sound Area. Owner Nick Slater says, "DSL offers superior performance and support than does Cable Internet. DSL is historically more reliable than Cable Internet and by design free of bottlenecks and traffic-related performance slowdowns. For many years, Zeuter has provided Accelerated Roaming Dialup Internet especially to our local snowbirds. Now Zeuter can offer our Roamers HiSpeed Internet across the United States, Ontario and Quebec." For more information, email sales@zeuter.com.
